Zoom for Healthcare (Instructions)
This page was created to provide instructions for those KU staff who've been assigned a KU Zoom for Healthcare license (HIPAA-compliant license).
The instructions below should help you get started with your new Zoom account. If you have any questions, feel free to contact itmps@ku.edu. (It's helpful to let us know your concerns/questions are about the Zoom for Healthcare account, rather than a general Zoom license.)
- To access your KU Zoom for Healthcare account at http://ku-health.zoom.us.
- (If you're redirected to the "normal" KU zoom page (http://kansas.zoom.us), just logout and try http://ku-health.zoom.us again. That's the Zoom application trying to be helpful and take you to where you last logged in.)
- By clicking on "Sign In," you'll be sent to KU's Single Sign-On. Login with your KU Online ID.
- As many KU users currently have Zoom Pro licenses through KU, they will be prompted to choose which to use.
- 1. Sign into Your Current Account = use previous Zoom Pro license (not HIPAA-compliant)
- 2. Sign into the New Account = use new Zoom for Healthcare Pro license (HIPAA-compliant)
- 1. Sign into Your Current Account = use previous Zoom Pro license (not HIPAA-compliant)
- Assuming you choose #2 above, you will be passed through to the web portal. Zoom for Healthcare users should now consider this account their KU-provided Zoom account. We do not advise switching back and forth between these different KU Zoom accounts. Your KU email will be tied to this Zoom account. And your Zoom portal, where you can create, manage, launch, and delete meetings, is http://ku-health.zoom.us.
- To login Zoom directly from the Zoom application on you computer or in Zoom's mobile application, sign out of their "other" account, and sign back in, using the SSO option. Enter "ku-health.zoom.us as the domain, when prompted.
- What is different when you use this Zoom for Healthcare account? There are 3 main differences between your Zoom for Healthcare account and a general Zoom Pro license:
- Cloud recording is not available in Zoom for Healthcare accounts. You will only be able to record meetings locally.
- Meetings are connected with a higher level of encryption with the Zoom for Healthcare product. Your meeting experience should not be impacted with this difference.
- KU has signed a Zoom BAA (Business Associate Agreement) with Zoom. The contract protects personal health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Your ability to participate in Zoom meetings created and hosted by others will be unaffected. You can join, share, and participate as you have with any other Zoom account.
