Upload Videos to Blackboard

Using multimedia items in a course enables students to reinforce, analyze and evaluate content and helps accommodate visual and oral learning styles.  Streaming multimedia can be placed directly into your Blackboard content area. You can upload content once to use in multiple courses. Kaltura — KU’s media streaming service — accepts most web-ready media formats.

For more information visit KU IT's Streaming Media and click on the Support tab or select from the following:

  1. Access any content area, such as Course Documents or Assignments.
  2. Build Content, then Kaltura Media (next to last option under "Mashups"). This step-by-step assumes that you're adding a video file for the first time. If you have already uploaded your video clip to MediaHub/Kaltura in the past (in another course, for example), you can skip to step 10. Otherwise, continue to step 3.
  3. Click on Add New (upper right) and select Media Upload.
  4. Click the Choose a File to Upload button and select the video file from your computer.
  5. Click Open.
  6. Your video will begin uploading. You must remain on this page until the upload is complete.
  7. Edit the TitleDescription and/or Tags. (Tip: Use a unique title or tag.)
  8. Click Save.
  9. Click Back to Browse and Embed.
  10. Find the media clip that you've uploaded. You can search by Title, Description or Tag. Click the Select button for that clip.
  11. Choose your display options (metadata and player skin) and click the Embed button.
  12. Give the content area item entry a Title and Description, and select your access options.
  13. Click Submit.
  14. Your media will begin transcoding/processing on the server. Depending on its length and size, it might take 2-20 minutes to be available for playback.
  1. Follow the steps above to load the audio or video clip to a course’s content area.
  2. Go to an additional course where you’d also like to use that clip.
  3. Access the content area where you’d like to place the file, such as Course Documents or Assignments.
  4. Build Content, then Kaltura Media.
  5. With the My Media tab selected, find the media clip you've uploaded previously. You can search by Title, Description or Tag. Click the Select button for that clip.
  6. Choose your display options (metadata and player skin) and click the Embed button.
  7. Give the content area item entry a Title and Description, and select your access options.
  8. Click Submit.

You can do these steps for each course where you’d like your media upload to be added.
